Oh dear, I've been unfaithful

I am sorry Peggy, you have been my Number One, but I couldn't help myself. There she was with her droopy downy ears and syrupy brown eyes.

I just wanted to be with her.

It started out to be an uneventful day at chez moi when the doorbell rang. I do wish human mum would change the ringtone, it sounds like the Pope is coming to visit, but I know she doesn't know how to change it. She of limited human intelligence.

Back to the day at hand ... it was a man come to fix the solar battery. Again beyond the capacity of she of limited human intelligence.

His van was parked in front of our house and he set about looking at the battery and then the meter box. But what caught my attention was the darling face in the window of his van. A face that looked longingly for attention.

My human mum went and said "hello" to she of darling face. And asked he of the van if he minded if darling face dog came into our house to play with moi.

My heart raced and my tail went into overdrive spin as she opened the van door, lifted the wee darling dog and brought her to me.

We sniffed each other and walked a little cautiously around each other but it was too late.

I was smitten.

Hazel.

Such a lovely bundle of gorgeousness.

She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has a royal pedigree with esteemed human owners such as Queen Mary of Scots and her grandson, Charles I, and great-grandson, Charles II which is where the name of her breed comes from, of course.

All thoughts of Peggy disappeared as I lusted after a life with Hazel.

I felt guilty for being disloyal to Peggy. Hazel Peggy Hazel Peggy. What a conundrum.

Then I thought: I'll be a polygamous Westie. If Jack Thompson, Mormons and Muslims can do it, then so can I.

It was so painful to watch her drive off in the van, but she will be in my heart forever alongside Peggy.
